CHASING BUTTERFLIES

How similar the chase it seems,
The chase to catch a butterfly,
And the act of chasing dreams
That escapes the reach and seems to fly.

Such beauty found within your grasp
That brushes past your fingertips,
And like the dreams that fill your mind…
They hover there, then slowly slip.

At least with chasing butterflies,
Your heart can feel a lift…
But not so chasing fading dreams
That from you seen to drift.

I now observe as they fly by,
No longer reach to catch,
And cut the tie that brought the chase
And from them both detach…

No longer chasing butterflies.
