THE WHEEL OF LIFE

I once thought how it spun so slowly,
But I was young and didn’t know
That soon I’d want the wheel to slow …
For then its speed I couldn’t see.
Wanting to see the grown-up years,
I tried to force the wheel to spin,
And spin it did, with me within,
And dried the wet behind my ears.
With gears that squeak, it picks up speed,
And grinds and turns – I see the smoke,
If I had thought before I spoke,
In my youth, I would have tarried.
Now as it spins, I’m blessed to see
The wheel of life that’s spinning still
And even though the ride’s downhill,
I’ll hang on tight and holler wheeeee!
