TODAY'S RAINBOW

I worried about tomorrow
And dwelled on yesterday,
And with my mind thus occupied
I missed out on today.

My heart focused on my sorrows,
Those things of yesterday,
And my vision of tomorrow…
I painted shades of gray.

In the sky were painted rainbows
Which I had failed to see;
For I worried about tomorrow
And that day blinded me.

Each time I saw tomorrow come
It turned into today
And I faced one more tomorrow
And missed today that way.

When I revived my yesterdays
I shook the deadened bones
And let them block the sun today
Beneath these planted stones.

Today, alone, is mine to hold,
But only for a time
And today’s unnoticed rainbow…
May be last God gives to me.
