SILVER IN RED
I’ll not wear brown instead of red
Or pull my hair into a bun,
But buy instead some dancing shoes…
For I’ve not yet had too much fun.
I’ll dress in purple and blue jeans
And paint my lips a shade that’s bright;
Don’t look at me and shake your head
Or tell me that this isn’t right.
Save polyester for the old
And don’t buy me no black laced shoes,
And you won’t see me cut my hair
Nor following no aging rules.
I’ve earned the right to live as me
So don’t be shocked at what you see;
I’ll not be squeezed into the mold…
That tells the world that I am old.
