PATH TO MY COFFIN BED
In youth I took a fleeting glance
Upon the road ahead,
It seemed to run forever,
No end I saw in sight...
But the years have changed those things,
The road seems now a path,
And I can clearly see the end.
I fight with all my might.
I glance on back, see where I’ve been,
It seems so long ago,
When I frolicked in my youth
And life was full ahead...
But the years have changed those things,
I see my name in stone,
And I asleep so peacefully
Within my coffin bed.
The road withdraws its long expanse,
I watch it shorten each new day,
I see the pathway has an end,
A thing in youth I didn’t see…
But the years have changed those things,
I see that now it doesn’t curve,
But, instead, points upward…
Toward heaven this path now leads me.
