INSOMNIA

 

I cannot sleep tonight,

My mind it won’t lie still,

It travels all about…

As if somewhere to go.

I cannot sleep tonight,

My heart I hear it pump,

Chest rises, catching breaths…

The why I just don’t know.

I cannot sleep tonight,

My body tells me sleep,

The eyes, I tell them shut…

They shout and tell me no.

I cannot sleep tonight,

My soul it wants to flee,

I tell it wait and rest…

It says it wants to go.

I cannot sleep tonight,

This floor has seen my steps,

It creaks in sympathy…

My feet are crying whoa.

I cannot sleep tonight,

My mind and body roam,

Soul pleads to let it soar…

Cries go…and don’t be slow.
